We Focus on Tools so you can focus on Art
Detour Tools was founded by Thomas Evans as a side project when he tried to make tools to help make the mural installation process much easier on his body and mind so that more focus can be on the creative process. This direction resulted in an energetic push to make tools for other artists with the goal creating tools and resources that help those in the artist community reach their artistic potential

The R&D Process
The process of innovating tools for artists starts with the actual need for the tool. Throughout the creative process, artists have become use to make-shifting their own tools to complete a task. We take these ideas and start to research the how we can make it better for the artist.
Designing and Printing
With an idea in mind, we go from pencil sketches to 2D vector sketches, to 3D CAD designs. These CAD designs go through several iterations during the initial designing phase to ensure that it adds value to the artist's artistic process. Once we think a design is good enough, we then start the printing process. We use several different printers as well as various printing materials to ensure our tools designs can stand up to harsh abuses in the studio or in the field.
Testing, Breaking & Repeat
One of the most exciting parts of our designing tools for artists is trying them out in the field. Battle testing each design brings about the much needed feedback that is necessary to make improvements. This process is always on-going. Even when we sell a final design there's feedback that we receive that help us take the design even further for future versions.
